GUIDE 05 / SEED RECOVERY
Recover a seed phrase with known mistakes
Prepare a seed recovery with the right wallet type and a known address, without mixing it up with password recovery.
Collect a way to verify the result
Start with your best transcription of the phrase and identify the wallet software that created it. Keep the word order and uncertain positions recorded. Do not silently correct spelling or reorder words before preserving the original transcription.
Find a known receiving address, an appropriate extended public key, or another supported verification input. Choose an address from the wallet you are trying to recover, ideally one created early in its life.
Open the seed recovery workflow
python seedrecover.pyFollow the local prompts for wallet type, available verification data, and your best seed estimate. The graphical prompts require the relevant GUI components; use the upstream command-line examples if your environment does not provide them.
All seed entry belongs in the local recovery application. No field on gurnec.com accepts a seed phrase.
Match the account and address range
A correct seed can appear to fail if you check the wrong wallet scheme, account, address type, or derivation path. Record what the original wallet used. A small address limit speeds up checking, but may exclude the address you supplied.
Choose a range based on how far into the wallet’s address history your verification address sits. If you used multiple accounts, consult the derivation-path reference rather than assuming the first account.
Choose a focused example
The resource library links separate workflows for missing words, transposition errors, tokenlists, and descrambling. Use the one that matches the evidence you actually have. Do not treat every valid-checksum phrase as your wallet: confirmation against the intended wallet data matters.
If the words are correct but an additional BIP39 passphrase is missing, move to the passphrase guide. A seed correction search alone will not solve that different problem.
